History and Background of Halotherapy

The therapeutic usage of salt caves began at the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland in 1843. A local physician, Felix Boczkowski, began observing that the miners working in underground salt mines, had drastically reduced levels of respiratory ailments and other illnesses. Dr. Boczkowski thus pioneered the research into the effects of Salt and Iodine Inhalation; ultimately concluding therapeutic benefits on the entire human body.

With this discovery, the Wieliczka Salt Mine began offering treatments to the public. Thus, the world’s first underground health rehabilitation and treatment centre was established in 1964. Poland’s Ministry of Health recognizes this unique facility for its pulmonary rehabilitation program. Dr. Boczkowski’s research has developed over the past 175 years into what we now call Halotherapy: a form of alternative medicine that makes use of salt.

Present Days Halotherapy

Wellness Centres and Holistic Spas are becoming a popular commodity of the 21st century. Although salt mines of this nature do not exist in major cities, many facilities are offering this treatment through a salt cave treatment room. The key component is the Halogenerator that disperses tiny salt particles into the air for individuals to breathe in. In these treatment rooms, the true Therapeutic Properties of an underground salt mine are provided allowing for proper Halotherapy treatment always.
